The Southern Mini Owners' Club was formed in the summer of 1986, and has gone from strength to strength and spread its wings to gather members from Kent, Surrey, Essex, Sussex and even from across the Channel. The club is very family friendly and members range from four months to 80+. Famous SMOCers have included Spike Milligan and Chris Tarrent.
Twenty-three years on, the club is still just as active attending most major Mini shows up and down the country, local classic car shows and regular social meetings. Its success can be attributed to a motto Sir Alec Issigonis would have been proud of: "To Dare to be Different." This motto is not only reflected in the variety of weird and wonderful Minis that the members own, including 4WD, shortened, tall and lowered, but also in the creative ability of the members.
On May 4 the club celebrated its 23rd birthday with a run to the beautiful setting of Bewl Water in Lamberhurst Kent. As these pictures show this event was well attended even the weather didn’t put these loyal Mini owners off.
SOUTHERN MINI DAYS
Bewl Water is the new venue for Southern Mini Days on July 31-August 2. SMD is the longest running all weekend Mini show on the calendar and this year at this new venue promises a fun filled event with all the usual entertainment; plus all the outdoor pursuits Bewl has to offer. The theme this year is Golden Mini Days celebrating the Minis 50th Anniversary. Camping is available over the weekend and can be extended at a small charge for those wishing to stay longer and move on to the IMM later in the week
See www.smoc.uk if you want to join the club, and www.bewl.co.uk if you would like to book your SMD tickets.
